| First appearance | Ch9201 |
Carl is his world's strongest human, an eighteenth-stage transcendent equal to a seventh-level elite wizard who alone has kept the plane from collapse for several thousand years.13 Impossibly old and visibly weakening, he accepts Jie Ming's Prisoner-of-War Treaty, pours his power into the array that opens the rift, and receives a Longevity Pill that buys him two thousand years.34 He joins the wizards' legions, holds the Plane Origin core against a parasite, and is judged a potential eighth-level wizard with systematic training.8910
Relationships¶
- Jie Ming: Whose projection avoids him at first; later his treaty partner and benefactor.134
- Dean Avery Knight: Judges he could become an eighth-level wizard in ten thousand years or so.10
- Holy Spirit King: Watched fleeing through rock walls after Carl wipes out a sixth-level elite Holy Spirit.34
- Humanity of his world: The people he guards and gathers into the wizards' fold.38
Background¶
Carl is first known only as "the old man" and "the strongest one," named at the close of Ch928.4 He appears impossibly old, with slack skin, white hair, a stoop and clouded eyes; his power is deep but weakening at the core, because his world's transcendent power is an emergency product evolved under the mutation and cannot escape the shackles of lifespan.3 He trades away eighth-level creatures in their thousands.1
Abilities¶
| Ability | Acquired | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Transcendent stage | Ch9201 | Eighteenth stage, the equivalent of a seventh-level elite wizard; his reputation alone keeps a hundred eighth-level aliens from attacking.16 |
| Silent annihilation | Ch9273 | Wipes out a sixth-level elite Holy Spirit and every alien creature around it without sound or sign.3 |
| Rock-wall sight | Ch9284 | Sees through rock walls to watch the Holy Spirit King flee.4 |
| Longevity Pill | Ch9284 | Extends his life by two thousand years and can be renewed indefinitely.4 |
| Plane Origin control | Ch9295 | His acknowledgment grants the wizards legitimacy with the Plane Origin; he nails himself into its core to hold it when a parasite eats about a fifth, and hands it over once control returns.58910 |
