Noren Workshop¶

Kind	Workshop ¹¹⁸
Leader(s)	Wizard Noren, workshop master ⁵³ Anton Buchanan, second eighth-level wizard ⁵⁹⁶⁰ Dionysius Spencer, strategic commander in the coordinated war ⁸²
Base	Noren Academy No. 1 ¹¹⁸
First appearance	Ch4¹

A wizard faction founded on logistics wizardry, rated a minor force under the Star Ring Federation and one of the three founders of the Junction.⁵³⁶⁵⁶ It runs more than a hundred and forty Noren Academies across a plane cluster in the heartland of wizard civilization.⁴⁹¹⁰⁶ Its second eighth-level wizard broke the balance with the Tower of Annihilation and the Chaos Secret Cult; it won the coordinated war that followed and now rates a medium power on its own.⁶⁰⁸⁴¹⁰⁸

Overview¶

Logistics is its true orthodoxy: the three pillar subjects are alchemy, runecraft and potioncraft, and even combat-discipline geniuses take logistics electives.²⁴⁵⁶ Logistics wizards are only about two percent of its membership, yet their numbers keep potion prices low and let hundreds of thousands of them keep building during a battle.³⁰⁷²¹⁰⁵ Its planes are core planes No. 1 to 10 and newly developed planes No. 10 to over 130; on the top core planes every human has wizard aptitude.⁹⁵⁴ Its backbone wizards are about fifth level; it can field about four hundred seventh-level and fewer than seven thousand sixth-level wizards, and has only one eighth-level wizard until Anton Buchanan's advancement makes two.⁵³⁶⁴⁶⁵⁸⁷⁹¹ Later counts put its seventh-level wizards above four hundred, possibly near five hundred.¹²⁵

It runs on an internal economy of military merit and "school points" at roughly ten points per merit, with an internal hiring platform, store, trading platform and knowledge base through which wizards buy knowledge, elemental pools, construction teams and plane transformation engineering teams.⁷²⁴³⁵⁴¹⁴³⁵²⁸⁹ Spatial equipment is so scarce that the most available wizard is booked ten years out.⁸ Contracts restrain its wizards from attacking one another.³³ Its planes are governed like provinces under academies, with artificial humans as officials, wizards as rotating two-hundred-year guardians, and populations' goods regulated to "just enough".⁸⁶⁸⁷ It is in rapid expansion: graduates who pass the talent trials open new plane clusters and build the next Noren Academy.⁴⁴

Structure¶

Leadership: The workshop master Wizard Noren and, from his advancement, Anton Buchanan, its only two eighth-level wizards; major decisions are taken in a pitch-dark chamber by tradition since founding.⁵³⁵⁹⁹⁰⁹¹
Noren Academies: More than a hundred and forty, enrolling once every five years; each core is an elite seventh-level array built by Noren; overseen by seventh-level wizards; No. 147 on Elosia runs on a hundred-year rotation.¹³²²⁴²⁴⁹¹¹⁶
Apprentice track: Ten-year term on a beast-hide contract; first-level graduates owe plane-battlefield service; failed graduates go to the front as conscripts; seven or eight Level-Two Cultivation Protocol apprentices per intake; after Ch858 all children with minimum aptitude are admitted and modified by the Blood Sacrifice Method, making tenth-level talent standard.⁵²³⁴⁵⁴⁶⁶¹¹⁰⁹¹¹⁰
Wizard service: Call-ups cover formal wizards of the third level and above; below the fourth level service is voluntary after the mandatory term; rest periods run half a year to five years and vary by mentor level, with fines able to shorten them.¹⁷²⁵⁴²⁶³¹²³
Elite combat units: Entered through the elite trials; the evaluation system was its only education reform before Ch858.⁵¹¹⁰⁹
War organization: A million-strong army of twelve battle groups, each ten battalions of ten squads of ten thousand third- to fifth-level wizards with several sixth-levels and at least one seventh-level; an alchemist legion of over twenty thousand; cannon-fodder legions of Black Giants, shadow warriors, constructs, elementals and modified beasts; hunter-killer squads of ten to twenty.⁶⁸⁷⁰⁷⁵⁸³
Logistics department: Approves early ends to rest periods; the headquarters monitoring hall watches trial leaderboards.¹⁵⁹⁴
Insignia: A deep blue formal robe with the Workshop mark in silver thread; its badge is wizard civilization's standard emblem.⁹⁸¹¹⁵

Relations¶

Star Ring Federation: Overlord; the Workshop is a minor force under it, uses its mediation mechanism to delay the war, reports the parallel wizard civilization to it, and lies near its boundary with the Crimson Court.⁵⁶⁰⁹²¹⁰²¹¹¹
Tower of Annihilation and Chaos Secret Cult: Neighbors for tens of thousands of years; rivals that co-founded, fund and maintain the Junction and send overseers on its expeditions; war follows Anton Buchanan's advancement, the Workshop outnumbered but ahead in wizard count; victory hands it their plane-search regions.²⁸³⁶³⁸³⁹⁴⁸⁶⁰⁶¹⁶²⁷⁷⁸⁰⁸⁴¹⁰³
Crimson Court: Linked by Clark's marriage to Kastilla, with shared resources and a redistribution of interests.¹⁰⁴
Elosia pantheon: Stalemate with the native gods, then every deity and angel sealed and the plane absorbed as Noren Plane No. 147.¹²¹⁹²¹⁵⁰
Scarlet Hive: A delegation of five, two of them eighth-level; apology and compensation accepted.¹¹²¹¹³
Augustine: Must buy the boundary-shifting technique from him like every other power.³²
Suoyuan: Research agreement; its archives hold only a few such cases.⁹⁸⁹⁹
Outside eighth-level wizards: Three owe Noren a favor for the ninth-level prey.¹²¹

History¶

Ch4-35: Jie Ming signs on as an alchemy apprentice; the apprentice contract binds first-level wizards to plane-battlefield service; a collective evaluation of all its academies is announced.¹³⁵
Ch60-100: The collective test gathers tens of thousands of elite apprentices from over a hundred academies, thirteen tenth-level-aptitude geniuses its true focus; it is run as a real invasion of Elosia with permanent plane ownership as the reward, apprentices forced in by tearing the plane barrier, contributions ranked monthly by a fate wizard.⁶¹⁰¹¹¹⁴
Ch102-145: The main force escalates against Elosia's divine coalition, exploits the orc-human rift, then seals every deity and angel and ends the trial early; the plane is divided by leaderboard, every valuable intelligent being taken, and Noren Academy No. 147 announced.¹⁶¹⁸¹⁹²⁰²²
Ch147-163: The Infernal Sulfur Plane is cleared and given a permanent gate; Elosia is built into a new academy; a new plane-pioneering plan is in the works.²³²⁶²⁷
Ch217-245: The Junction is co-founded with two other factions; Jie Ming receives the Golden Garden; several hundred ship-planes are kept there as reserve.³⁶³⁷³⁸
Ch263-325: The Shadow Plane is pacified; rapid expansion begins; a million-strong expeditionary force is mobilized; Elosia becomes Noren Plane No. 147.⁴⁰⁴⁴⁴⁷⁵⁰
Ch367-383: The Workshop has a single eighth-level wizard until Anton Buchanan advances, shifting the three-way balance.⁵³⁵⁸
Ch450-470: War with the Tower of Annihilation and the Chaos Secret Cult is delayed by Federation mediation for at most eighty years; the opening exchange of curses and the muster of all 170 seventh-level fate wizards follow.⁶⁰⁶⁶⁶⁷
Ch472-493: The army lands, raises a wall of over a hundred linked fortresses, wins the first battle, loses seventeen sixth-levels, beats back a surprise attack and shifts to ambush and hunter-killer tactics.⁶⁸⁶⁹⁷³⁷⁴⁷⁶
Ch505-537: Both sides hunt each other's trump cards; a battlefield-wide transmutation array secretly feeds the Awakening Array; the Workshop wins the coordinated battle after over three million troops and deaths in the tens of billions.⁷⁸⁸¹⁸⁵
Ch539-541: Takeover missions are issued for every handed-over plane.⁸⁶⁸⁸
Ch589-594: With two eighth-levels, it reports the parallel wizard civilization to the Federation.⁹⁰⁹²
Ch708-724: Broadleaf negotiates a research agreement with Suoyuan.⁹⁶⁹⁸⁹⁹
Ch767-769: Its plane-search angle grows with the confiscated enemy ranges, but it lacks the high-level wizards to sweep it.¹⁰²¹⁰³
Ch800-841: Clark's marriage links it to the Crimson Court; a forward station finds a Wonder about fifteen hundred years from its cluster.¹⁰⁴¹⁰⁷
Ch858-881: Admissions reform through the Blood Sacrifice Method; a delegation to the Scarlet Hive; Clark and Kastilla's wedding on a scenic plane.¹⁰⁹¹¹⁰¹¹²¹¹³¹¹⁵
Ch886-899: An emergency meeting of thousands of high-level wizards puts the Wonder a hundred and twenty years out; investigation teams are formed, protective arrays raised, four dead members revived and the First Investigation Team rewarded ten billion high-level merit each.¹¹⁷¹²⁰¹²²
Ch943-975: Hopes rest on Carl for a third eighth-level; Jie Ming's conscription for the Holy Spirit planes is approved; high-level wizards test Leap Power under confidentiality.¹²⁴¹²⁶¹²⁷
Ch978-1006: Its academies cheer another Level-One Cultivation Protocol recipient for the Workshop; Jie Ming uses its permitted observation angle into the endless chaotic void for extreme learning.¹²⁸¹²⁹
