Wizard levels

The wizard side of the power system. A wizard's strength is a level: apprentices have three levels, formal wizards are numbered from first to ninth.

Only chapter-verified facts are listed so far. The extraction pass fills in the rest.

Apprentices

  • Apprentices have three levels, and only the step from third-level apprentice to formal wizard is hard.1
  • Without becoming a formal wizard, an apprentice's lifespan is capped at about seventy years; becoming one removes the cap.1

Formal wizards

Levels run from first-level to ninth-level. Within a level, the translation distinguishes the early, middle and upper stage; "half-step" marks a wizard on the threshold of the next level.

  • A "half-step eighth-level" being is strong enough that its origin, left unchecked, could spread across the whole Sacred Continent.2
  • "Elite fifth-levels" are fifth-level wizards who can survive a sixth-level; one of them, backed by four wizards in a joint casting array, can trade fire with a sixth-level wizard for a short time.3

Titles and offices

  • Great Wizard: A title attached to high numbered levels, such as a seventh-level Great Wizard.
  • Magistrate: A seventh-level wizard administrator.
  • Speaker: One of the nine ninth-level wizards of the Star Orbit Tribunal.

Other civilizations' scales

Other civilizations name the same tiers differently: the Holy Spirits call eighth-level beings "king-level" and their three greatest "sovereign-level", and the mechanical civilization calls the ninth level the "Supreme level".
