Chapters 901-1000

Jie Ming has just fought off a mechanical civilization in a plane war (the octopus-men, the Grand President and Wizard Noren) and is sorting through the aftermath. The range opens with him choosing a new magic and waiting for a reaction from media he seeded in a primitive plane.

Arcs

0. Bridge, aftermath and a hook (Ch901)

  • Jie Ming heals from the battle of Ch895-898.1
  • He lists the lessons of that battle: The Black Giants lag behind, and he has no long-range wide-area attack.1
  • He picks the earth-element engineering magic Breathing Soil Creation from the Great Dao Book Pavilion.1
  • He starts buying materials for it.1
  • In the last beat, the Fate Subsystem pings: one of the media he seeded in the mushroom-men's primitive plane has activated.1

1. Jack's graduation trial (Ch902-913)

  • The point of view shifts to Jack, an orphan apprentice in a post-apocalyptic human plane, 5,000 years after the Disaster Era.2
  • During the school's forest survival trial, the Descent Faction, made up of human traitors, massacres students to fuel a spatial-passage array.2
  • Jack's keepsake metal block activates as a System; it is really Jie Ming's medium, remotely working alchemy.2
  • Jack burns life force to revive his friend Sia, then recharges off energy crystals and enhances himself.2
  • He kills the men in black and rescues the class prodigy Gavin.2
  • Jack stabs the array core and drains it dry while the old general of the 6th stage fights the Faction leader.3
  • Jie Ming analyzes the array and finds its spatial theory better than his own.4
  • Augusta reports a second hidden civilization behind the birdmen's Sky Cities, and they agree to wait for seventh-level backup.4

2. Twin Stars and the Descent (Ch914-919)

  • Time skips ahead by months, then several years; Jack and Gavin join the military as the Twin Stars.5
  • Jack advances from the 6th stage to the 8th stage.5
  • Gavin is gravely wounded on a compulsory mission at an energy-crystal mine, and later leaves oddly.6
  • Sia's life force fails.7
  • Sia drugs Jack, and the region's elderly power-holders restrain him because they want the System for longevity.8
  • Gavin is revealed to be a Holy Spirit parasite.8
  • Jack shouts to the sky that he knows he has been watched and begs for help.8
  • Jie Ming animates Gavin's body into a puppet of his own likeness, kills the guards and pockets the Holy Spirit; Jack kills Sia himself, and Jie Ming offers to take him as a disciple.9
  • They flee the Holy Spirit's sky-blotting tentacles, and Jie Ming tells Jack he will need him, but Jack does not answer.10

3. Anvil Base (Ch920-928)

  • Jie Ming, through his puppet, and Jack go to the fallen Northwestern War Zone and take over the survivor base Anvil.11
  • They resettle refugees under the Wizard Standard Prisoner-of-War Treaty and educate Jack.11
  • Intel indicates that this plane may hold a passage to the Central World of the world cluster, which is why more than fifteen advanced civilizations are circling it.11
  • Insect-man, dinosaur-man and vine-man commanders assault the base, and Jie Ming kills them.12
  • A Holy Spirit of the 6th-level elite descends, and Jie Ming's puppet buys time and is destroyed.13
  • Carl, humanity's strongest, erases the Holy Spirit and offers to hand humanity to the wizards.14
  • An 8th-level Holy Spirit King tries to invade the Infernal Sulfur Plane through the rift, then severs his own tentacles and flees to warn the other civilizations.15
  • Jie Ming's true body and about twenty high-level wizards descend; Jack salutes Jie Ming as "Teacher" and Carl joins the wizard civilization.15

4. The springboard world and the Holy City (Ch929-933)

  • The wizards disperse to hunt their own targets.17
  • Jie Ming follows the Holy Spirit passage's spatial footprints to the batfolk springboard world, which is enslaved through neural tentacles, and razes it.16
  • He breaks the Holy Spirit Kings' "Indescribable" perception trick; an author's note on predictive processing follows.18
  • He kills a dozen 8th-level Kings with Terminus Ray and lets one tentacle-less King escape so as to record his passage.16
  • He refines the whole drained springboard plane into one grain of Breathing Soil, his first casting of the magic.19
  • The arc closes on a request for support from Jack's side.19

5. Seven-Race Alliance (Ch934-935)

  • At the forbidden zone, the site of the original mutation, more than 100 8th-level aliens of seven races face Carl.20
  • Jie Ming says the wizard civilization has never needed allies and calls the aliens spoils of war.20
  • Clark, Kastilla, Augusta, Viola and more seventh-levels arrive and bag every 8th-level in half a minute.21
  • The wizards then walk into the aliens' passages to eat their civilizations.22
  • The arc ends with the party turning to look at the ruins.22

6. The ruins (Ch936-939)

  • Because of the observer effect in the building stone, the ruins are undetectable.24
  • After a five-year skip, Jie Ming digs out the whole forbidden zone into a basin.24
  • The core laboratory cluster holds a curse-aggregate guardian and mushroom-men research files.23
  • The deepest laboratory has been compressed by runaway World Nesting Technology, which compresses a plane inside a plane and caused the plane's Disaster Era.25
  • Viola calls with an alarm: A parasite has stolen part of Carl's control over the Plane Origin.26

7. The parasite (Ch939-943)

  • Jie Ming, Viola and Berta Vera Augusta purge parasite beasts for three years.27
  • They then fight the main body, a mountain range that has eaten a third of a light-year-wide plane.28
  • An angel civilization, the power behind the birdmen, ambushes them.29
  • The parasite is killed after half a year more of fighting.29
  • Carl and Jack are remodeled into wizard-civilization humans.30
  • Dean Avery Knight gives Jack's several hundred million people a plane under Noren Academy No. 147.30
  • Jack calls the new plane simply paradise, and Carl says it is time they went to class too.30
  • Viola leaves while Augusta stays, and Jie Ming announces that he plans to take on the Holy Spirit plane next.30

8. The Holy Spirit civilization war (Ch944-952)

  • The Holy Spirit council meets, and the King of Spreading Fear is used as the coordinate for a reverse rift and dies.31
  • Blood Tentacle Tyrant suppresses the rift and summons the other two Sovereigns.32
  • Jie Ming infiltrates through the dead king's plane and runs a guerrilla campaign through the permanent passages.33
  • The Sovereigns and 10,000 Kings encircle him while Augusta and 100 million Black Giant priests burst the suppressed passage.34
  • Tens of thousands of 7th-level mushroom-men self-destruct and shatter the plane.35
  • Breathing Soil Creation then refines thousands of planes and more than 10,000 Kings into a knuckle of soil.35
  • The Three Sovereigns prove to be true 8th-level monsters.35
  • After a ten-year brawl, Augusta's sub-light plasma halo kills all three Sovereigns.36
  • The wrap-up chapter covers a digestion problem and a Holy Spirit breeding planet; Viola announces that Wizard Starfall is coming to run a test.37

9. Starfall, Wizard Fate and the plane wizard (Ch953-957)

  • Wizard Starfall arrives escorted by Wizard Fate, the creator of the Fate Law and an eighth-level legend.38
  • Viola's problem is that the insect-man civilization is one super-parasite strung through 8,500 planes.39
  • Starfall's Number One, a Law-Solidified large-plane wizard, crushes it with crude but planet-scale basic spells.40
  • The plane-wizard legion is for the coming war: the Third Seat, a ninth-level, has found another enemy like the Multiracial Alliance.41
  • The education reform that made Jie Ming an elite combat unit was meant to breed the main force.41
  • The real test subject is the Central World.42
  • Jie Ming daydreams about his own Dharma Form reaching plane scale, and everyone goes off to recruit.42

10. Time skip and the door (Ch958-959)

  • Fifty to sixty years pass.43
  • Jack, now a graduated wizard under Jie Ming, is lectured that wizards are invaders, not saviors.43
  • World Nesting research dovetails with the Mustard Seed Dao-Holding True Body Art.43
  • Clark reports that three plane wizards have crushed three advanced civilizations.43
  • After ten more years, a dozen high-level wizards hand back their outsourced World Nesting research.44
  • Kastilla adds a protective spell through which no cannon fodder can enter.44
  • Wizard Fate cuts the fissure to the Central World, and the chapter ends on the door opening.44

11. The Central World (Ch960-964)

  • The Central World exerts crushing spatial pressure.45
  • A white light drains Jie Ming's Mysterious Astral Mortal Dust Barrier and mind-controls several wizards, who are sent back out; it is a lure or trap.45
  • Jie Ming's True-False Void-Piercing Pupil jumps to its highest level, and he sees everything as rune networks.45
  • He watches Fate open the barrier with one tap.45
  • Inside are primitive multi-armed creatures and ostrich-folk, degenerated outsiders and the same ostriches the Holy Spirits kept as livestock.45
  • The plants have laboratory-perfect rune structure and zero genetic redundancy.45
  • Jie Ming concludes that the plane is a laboratory and wonders whether the party was spotted on entry.46
  • Number One's true body descends and triggers a disaster.46
  • Jie Ming senses his own Incense Fire Poison in one direction, where the runes of the whole world converge; Fate says that must be the test subject he saw through fate.46

12. The Central World, concluded (Ch965-969)

  • As the party follows Wizard Fate toward the point where the plane is collapsing, a ninth-level aura crashes over them, and Jie Ming, who knows that aura well, senses weakness in it.47
  • Fate confirms that the test subject is a wounded ninth-level creature that somehow cannot heal itself, and the wizards realize the whole Central World is part of its body, built unconsciously while it slept in order to feed it.47
  • The creature, a gaunt, green-scaled humanoid, wakes, and Fate's law fixation pins the runes around it so that its "thought becomes reality" only works inside its own body, a sight that gives Jie Ming a great stride in understanding the eighth level.48
  • The three plane wizards batter the creature while it heals itself as fast as they wound it.48
  • Once the Central World has been devoured, red-eyed hordes from the surrounding plane clusters charge in; Kastilla senses that they want to "return," and Jie Ming realizes that the whole world cluster, Holy Spirits, ostriches and humans included, grew out of the sleeping creature and is part of it.49
  • The wizards seal the survivors one by one as specimens, since anything tied to a ninth-level is rare research material even for eighth-level wizards.50
  • Watching the plane wizards steamroll the creature, Fate privately tells Starfall that the Reflection Dimension, the Sentience Calamity and the Multiracial Alliance have stretched the main battlefield to its limit, which is why the plane wizard plan and the education reform were rushed.50
  • The creature is beaten unconscious and compressed into a rune seal, and Fate and Starfall leave with it and the three plane wizards.51
  • Months later, Jie Ming and Jack walk a ruined city on Jack's plane while Black Giants lay the arrays that will fold it into the Infernal Sulfur Plane, and Jie Ming's heightened True-False Void-Piercing Pupil fades back to normal.51
  • Uneasy about what the test implies, Jie Ming warns Jack that a brutal war will come within a few thousand years and tells him his combat talent outstrips his teacher's.51

13. Leap Power (Ch970-975)

  • Back on the Infernal Sulfur Plane, Jie Ming sorts the haul: Holy Spirit captives, nearly ten thousand planes that will finally supply the All-Heavens Star Grand Array's remaining array eyes, Holy Spirit knowledge, World Nesting Technology and months of Pupil observation data.52
  • He decides he must win the Level-One Cultivation Protocol, both to master all the laws as Clark did and to be ready for the war.52
  • His chosen route is a technology that fuses the Information Plane's entropy reduction cycle with the cultivation system's mobilizing of the power of heaven and earth, so that any wizard could steer far more outside energy than his own.53
  • A thousand years and hundreds of failures later, the project, now named Leap Power, is still stuck because one cycle cannot fit every law and element, though his Spiritual Qi Law mastery count has passed two hundred.54
  • Viola delivers her hundred-year report on the limitless-energy ninth-level creation he lent her and, speaking for Clark and Kastilla, urges him to change course with the war approaching; he tells her he knows what he is doing.54
  • Less than fifty years later, Leap Power runs stably, carried over the last hurdle by his Central World data on the four basic elemental laws, and passes tests on Black Giant priests, Tentacle Tree researchers and plant-people.55
  • Jack, now a fifth-level wizard, turns up to hand in his homework and is drafted as the first wizard test subject.55
  • Leap Power multiplies the elements Jack's mental energy can move several times over, and Jie Ming sends him to conquer a plane alone, armed with Leap Power, as his trial and gift for advancing to the sixth level.56
  • Clark and Kastilla recruit Noren Workshop high-level wizards for confidential tests, and the testers beg to buy the technology, but Jie Ming insists on submitting it to the Star Ring Federation first.57
  • When he submits it, Felix pulls him into a special review conference in a data space, where Savien, Bastian and Morna wait beside a veiled figure who names himself John: the Fourth Seat, one of the wizard civilization's nine ninth-level wizards.57

14. The Level-One Cultivation Protocol (Ch976-981)

  • At the special review conference, Savien, Bastian and Morna realize that Leap Power could let an ordinary eighth-level wizard suppress a ninth-level creature.58
  • The Fourth Seat reveals that he reached into the threads of fate to finish Leap Power early, because on its original course it would have come only after a coming war had gone badly.59
  • He says the enemy is not very strong in itself but has lit the fuse for other troubles, and he takes all the backlash of his meddling on himself.60
  • The reviewers award Jie Ming the Level-One Cultivation Protocol; Clark, Kastilla and Viola celebrate, and his name spreads across the wizard civilization.60
  • The protocol gives Jie Ming a nearly unlimited allowance and a dedicated clone of Felix, and he sets out to master all the laws as Clark did.61
  • The Third Seat orders Leap Power taught to every wizard within a hundred years, which Jie Ming reads as the war's timetable.62
  • Felix offers to steer the conscription of the people Jie Ming cares about, but Clark, Kastilla and Viola all decline.63
  • One hundred and thirty years later, the four major powers conscript every high-level wizard for the war.64

15. Nature and life (Ch981-983)

  • Jie Ming's Third Layer Dharma Form reaches perfection as his Spiritual Qi Law climbs another fifty-odd points.64
  • Reckoning that mastering all the laws would take over ten thousand years to carry him to the seventh level, he decides to advance to the Great Ascension Realm instead.64
  • Notes in the Great Dao Book Pavilion teach him that Great Ascension needs the dual cultivation of nature and life, and that nature cultivation multiplies a cultivator's power separately from everything else.65
  • Several hundred years later, he gives up on the sword cultivators' classics as too idealist to explain anything.66
  • He links nature cultivation to the ninth-level power "thought becomes reality" and sets out to find a materialist account of how conviction shapes power.66

16. The legion and the voyage (Ch984-988)

  • After nearly six hundred years, Jack conquers his trial plane and becomes a sixth-level combat wizard.67
  • Three or four hundred years into the war, Jie Ming plans a battlefield test of a new Leap Power with a whole legion and brings Jack along to keep him safe.67
  • The new version raises Leap Power's ceiling from fivefold to tenfold, and Felix assigns Dixon, an old comrade from the Triad Plane Cluster mission, as Jie Ming's guard.68
  • Aboard the ship-plane of a five-million-wizard joint legion of the Star Ring Federation and the Crimson Court, the commander Peyton briefs them on the enemy, the Behemoth Alliance, and its Scaled Beast faction.69
  • After a year's voyage, a thousand-plus eighth-level scaled beasts move to intercept the ship-plane.70
  • Peyton goes out alone and wipes them all out with a white mist of the Heat Death Law, boosted by the new Leap Power.71

17. The behemoth nest (Ch989-997)

  • Reconnaissance finds a nest built from shattered planes that holds over a million eighth-level behemoths.72
  • Three ninth-level behemoths stir at the nest's heart, and the two armies clash.73
  • The legion advances until the ninth-levels' casual breath and roar force it back.74
  • Peyton, Alvis and Meridian each draw one ninth-level behemoth away, and Dixon pulls Jie Ming clear of a glance that caves in the void.75
  • Dixon foresees a raid on the ship-plane by stealth-type behemoths, and close-combat wizards crush it.76
  • When the fighting bogs down in the nest's maze of plane fragments, Jie Ming spends ten-odd days laying a Breathing Soil Creation array while Dixon commands the legion.77
  • The spell refines the entire nest and its defenders into a planet-sized block of Breathing Soil.78
  • The black lizard behemoth strikes at Jie Ming, but the Breathing Soil swells to absorb the blow while he escapes.79
  • The three eighth-level wizards drive the ninth-level behemoths into retreat, the legion hunts down the rest, and Jie Ming heads home with his data.80

18. Homeward and the coming decisive battle (Ch998-1000)

  • Back in the Infernal Sulfur Plane, Jack leaves for the front with a Substitute Death Doll from Jie Ming.81
  • Decades later, Jie Ming releases the optimized Leap Power to the whole civilization and turns to mastering all the laws, his Spiritual Qi Law now at three hundred points.81
  • Several centuries on, Molten Mountain breaks through to the eighth level and can shrink himself to three meters tall.82
  • Viola, killed when ten ninth-level behemoths overran her unit, revives in a spare body stored in Jie Ming's laboratory and relishes the pain of her own death.83
  • She reports that the behemoths have an unusually high share of ninth-levels, that Starfall's plane wizards have won the main battlefield, and that the Third Seat is shifting forces, so a decisive battle looks a few hundred years away.83
  • Jie Ming finds he has done in a thousand years what he expected to take ten thousand, and expects to master all the laws, and with that reach the Great Ascension Realm, in about a hundred more years.83
