Flame-Frost Plane expeditionary force¶
| Kind | Army 2 |
| Leader(s) | |
| Base | Wizard camp on the Flame-Frost Plane, later the ship-plane 13 |
| First appearance | Ch1771 |
The wizard army sent to the Flame-Frost Plane, fighting a grinding war against the plane's two native races from a fortified camp.2 Under Augustine, with only three fifth-level wizards beneath him, it holds the upper hand a year after landing but controls only the initial camp area.12 Isolated for about ten plane years once Augustine flies the ship-plane home for reinforcements, it ends with the camp self-destructing and the survivors evacuating to the ship-plane.813
Overview¶
The camp's focus shifts from fighting to geological surveying by combat wizards after a logistics wizard finds that the Blazing Sun and Frostshadow boundary moves with the two races' war results, by up to eighty percent into either side's land.23 The camp triples in size in its second year, gives every logistics wizard a private laboratory, and runs forward outposts deep in the Frostshadow Realm reached by teleportation array.56 Its final survey report proves both races can bear near-extinction, so brutal methods will not trigger a plane detonation.5 Its defenses, designed by fifth-level wizards, rest on an energy core that withstands a fifth-level full assault.9
Structure¶
- Commander: Augustine; fifth- and sixth-level commanders alone may authorize a wizard to leave.812
- Three fifth-level deputy commanders (Erwin, Roland Varnal and one unnamed), the only fifth-levels on the expedition.18
- Combat wizards reassigned to surveying; logistics wizards with private laboratories.35
- Mission system: Rescue missions when terminals are crushed, exploration missions, and Mandatory Missions late in the war.4710
- Contract: No desertion without a commander's permission; commanders must keep mission losses within a range.12
- Second-level and below kept in the dark and used as cannon fodder.14
Notable members¶
| Member | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Augustine | Commander | Flies the ship-plane back for reinforcements, leaving three deputies behind.8 |
| Master Erwin | Fifth-level deputy commander | One of the expedition's three fifth-level wizards.1 |
| Master Roland Varnal | Fifth-level deputy commander | One of the expedition's three fifth-level wizards.1 |
Relations¶
- The Junction: Higher authority; approves thirty thousand reinforcement wizards, which only the ship-plane can fetch.8
- Blazing Sun and Frostshadow races: Enemies; thousands to tens of thousands of monsters attack daily.2
- High-level snow monsters: Their disappearance across every surveyed border region prompts an exploration mission.7
History¶
- Ch177-178: One year after landing, a stalemate with the upper hand but only the initial camp held.12
- Ch178-179: Boundary discovery; pivot to geological surveying.23
- Ch184: Rescue missions as terminals are crushed, the range widening with each loss.4
- Ch192-193: Camp triples; final survey report; forward outposts in the Frostshadow Realm.56
- Ch194: Exploration mission as high-level snow monsters vanish.7
- Ch200: Reinforcements approved; Augustine departs; the force is isolated for about ten plane years.8
- Ch202-206: Defenses hold; Mandatory Missions, a contracted line, mass-produced bio-beasts, and everyone sent to outer nodes as bait.910
- Ch209-211: Camp self-destructs; survivors evacuate to the ship-plane; the low-level wizards learn they were cannon fodder.1314
